Happy Year of the Goat!
Will it be my year, since I was born in the year of the goat? I'm not a superstitious person, but I always love hearing good stuffs that are related to me. So, when I read somewhere that this year would be good for all the 'goats' out there, I was so elated, and I tried to believe it with my whole heart, hoping that would really come true.
Well, year of the goat is here, and now we can finally see if the fortune is true. We've got a whole year to prove and work for it.
Please accept my sincere heart wishing you all of my readers a happy lunar new year. I believe the new year celebration doesn't belong to certain races, ethnicity, or communities, but rather is there for those who want to enjoy it, and be devoured in its traditions and festivities. It's just another big holiday meant to be spent with your loved ones, thanking God for the opportunity to live another day. It's actually a good holiday deep in meaning and have cultural significance mostly to Chinese descendants (which include Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, and so on), a celebration so rich it will be a waste if you just sit there missing out. It will be much more interesting if we can take some time digging further, let our selves be mesmerised in other's culture, and appreciate it.
I feel fortunate that today in Indonesia, the lunar new year is celebrated openly, which wasn't possible until around 2000. It signifies the good changes that mark the improved-level of tolerance of the native Indonesian, showing that we can really live side by side. Different but united. Though some clashes are still happening and I can't turn a blind eye towards the unfairness the minorities still experience in their daily life, I'm optimistic that life in colours in this multi-cultural country is after all, hugely possible.
