How we say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year with style
Merry Christmas, everyone! We live in such a modern world, an old-fashioned christmas card doesn't look too good anymore. Here below I try listing 5 ways we, modern people, like to say our greeting to friends and family.
1. Broadcast Message on BBM
Well, Blackberry is still going quite strong in Indonesia, and people use its feature, Broadcast Message, to litterally broadcast 'Merry Christmas' with all kind of ornaments, styles, and emoticons to everyone in their contacts. I did this several years ago, but stopped doing it since last year. I think it's annoying to receive such an impersonal christmas greeting in your chat rooms, knowing that hundred and thousand other people receive exactly the same message. What makes you different from all of their less good friends?
2. Images through Path
This one is a new phenomenon that I saw this year. Path is the new, cooler twitter and facebook in 2013. A lot of people upload a christmas image, and tag it to as many friends as they have and remember in Path. Although it's basically is 1 message meant for all, it's more special than Broadcast Message since Path is basically used to connect our inner circle together, to connect with our real friends, not some strangers that look charming or beautiful. At least we know that we're tagged because we're friends and they remember us personally. We're not just some random folks in their contact list.
3. Short Video and Image on Instagram
It's basically the same method as Path, but less personalised. instagram is a public area. It's a place to show off your life in form of images and videos. You want more and more people to follow you and see how fabulous your life is. You don't tag people in your christmas image in instagram. You just upload the fancy image or video you made, and let the people who stroll in their timeline see it and give it a like. The more like and comments you get, the better.
4. Facebook and Twitter status
Yes, facebook and twitter are still a thing.
5. E-mail
Like, yeah some people still know how to actually write an e-mail. usually, only corporates do this.
So, which one of those is the best way to send your warm holiday greetings? Somehow I like the good-ol' way better than all of the above. A christmas card, with a little something written in it. I like getting christmas cards, though I never get one again since I went into secondary school. And it takes more time and preparation. So it's not too practical anymore. So, yeah, you can choose any forms you find befitting for you and it will be okay as long as the message is received. But make sure to make it somehow feel more personalised so that the people who receive it won't see it as another usual christmas greeting. Make sure they feel your sincerity in that very message.
Have a happy christmas, everyone, and a merry new year, in case I can't blog on the last day of the year or the first of the new one. ;)
