The fact that Pi believes in 3 faiths (Hindu, Islam, and Christian) is epic. See? Finally 1 person who shares the same thought as me: God is 1 and the same. Stop looking for flaws in others. It's an incredibly perfect book for all religion freaks (read: fanatics) out there who praise labels instead of God.
