Skyfall
~ As the skyfall, we will stand tall.
After skipping the previous Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, I had long been determined to not miss another Bond movie. First: I find James Bond series legen-wait for it- dary. Second: I need to see more of Daniel Craig's beautiful clear blue eyes. oh, and his abs. but that's just an extra. lol
So last week I went to the cinema near my place, bought 3 tickets (mom, sister, and I), and waited eagerly to enter the theater. I had done little research on Skyfall. But tried so hard not to read any reviews, so I could watch with a clear mind and my own expectation. I listened to the soundtrack, Skyfall by Adele, which I found very dark, not that easy to listen to, and sounded a little off at first. But I've changed my mind after watching Skyfall, because now I think Adele's song fits the movie just right.
Back to the movie.
Daniel Craig's version of James Bond is nice, for me. But please don't trust me on this, because truth be told I never watch another version of Bond than Daniel Craig. :(
The whole main story of Skyfall is a little lacking on surprises, and wow effects, in my opinion. I hardly felt agitated or wholly excited during the 2-hour movie, but ended up deeply touched when I saw M died. Though the storyline, most of the time is predictable, I have to give a thumb up for Skyfall has provided its audience strong characters, who aren't just come and go. Everyone has a position and contribution. Moreover, we get to see the more 'human' side of 007 agent, not just him as a womanizer. We get to see Bond actually becomes vulnerable, and unsure of himself and whom he can trust. For me, it's something I didn't get to see in the previous Daniel Craig's James Bond movies.
For once, we see so little of the Bond girls. They play very little parts, and I assumed that this time, M is the Bond girl. She died, right? Like all the previous girls. Well, that chinese woman also died, but she, for me, is very forgettable. So I don't see her as a Bond girl, though she did have sex with Bond. M didn't have sex, but M is certainly the main female character in Skyfall. We also caught a little of M using her 'heart' in some occasions, besides looking at how much M cared for Bond and all her MI6 team. It gave me a warm feeling while watching.
In Skyfall, we will see a lot of heart-thumping actions, but not enough to leave you gasping. In return, you will get more emotional dramas, which are the aspects I love about this movie. The minion(s) are not that scary, but certainly very powerful, though they, too, are soft-hearted. The only scary thing about the big badass is his super big eyes that look like they're about to pop out. :| oh, don't forget the moment he takes off his artificial teeth (and gums). That, my dear, is yuck!
All in all, Skyfall is enough for me to satisfy my needs for some action-drama movies, though I hope to see a bigger plot or a more complex storyline.
The main premise is: A bad guy who bears a deep vengeance to M is so determined to destroy and kill M completely. James Bond is the only one M trusts to stop the devil.
I was expecting a bigger player behind all the destructions, but received none. The gum-less guy is the only mastermind, who happened to be a genius, an ex-agent, and a psycho.
For giving me a nice look at Daniel Craig's pair of blue eyes, I give this movie 4 stars out of 5.
For giving me some heart-touching moments, I give this movie 3 out of 5 stars.
For a nice soundtrack and sound effects, 5 out of 5.
All in all, Skyfall has gain 3.5 stars out of 5 from me. :)
